No Hate in Our State – Standing with Israel
By Myra Clark-Siegel, AJC Westchester/Fairfield Regional Director
In an era marked by escalating geopolitical tensions and a resurgence of antisemitism, the relationship between Israel and the Jewish Diaspora stands as a pillar of strength and unity for the global Jewish community. At a time when polarization seems to seep into every crack of our national discourse, it is imperative that we, as a community, reinforce our ties with Israel. This is essential not only for Israel’s standing on the world stage but also for the vibrancy and resilience of Jewish life worldwide.
The bond between Israel and the Jewish Diaspora is profound, shaped by shared history, culture, and faith. This connection – our peoplehood – goes beyond simple kinship; it is a dynamic interaction of mutual values. In times of global upheaval and political discord, the bond between Israel and the Jewish Diaspora remains a cornerstone of Jewish identity and resilience. The surge of many Jews proudly and publicly embracing their Jewish identity after October 7 is a stark reminder of the importance of this mutual relationship. As we navigate through periods of intense challenge, the importance of transcending politics to reinforce these ties is increasingly clear. For AJC (American Jewish Committee), this commitment to fortifying the Israel-Diaspora relationship is not only a central tenet of our mission but a vital part of our strategic vision to ensure the thriving future of the Jewish people worldwide.
This bond transcends geographical boundaries and political leanings, rooted in collective historical memory and common destiny. In these challenging times, marked by rising antisemitism and geopolitical strife, the need for a united Jewish front is more urgent than ever. AJC has been pivotal in navigating these complexities in a non-partisan manner, working tirelessly to bridge gaps and foster understanding with policymakers and stakeholders. It is vital that Jewish communities around the world continue to advocate for Israel’s right to exist and to flourish in peace and security.
This is not just about policy but about the preservation of a global Jewish family. Our shared history as a people teaches us that our strength lies in our unity. As we face the future, let us remember that our bonds are forged in the fires of adversity and strengthened through the mutual respect and understanding we extend to one another. This enduring connection will not only support Israel but also invigorate Jewish communities worldwide.
By prioritizing dialogue and understanding, and aiming to elevate the communal over the divisive, we can ensure that the spirit of Klal Yisrael—unity among Jews—remains robust and vibrant, no matter the challenges ahead. This is not merely beneficial for the Jewish people but essential for our survival and flourishing as a diverse yet unified community. Join us in learning how to advocate for the Jewish people. Our collective future depends on it.
