JTS Appoints New Dean of the Division of Religious Leadership

The Jewish Theological Seminary (JTS), one of the world’s preeminent centers of Jewish higher education, announced that it has appointed Rabbi Ayelet S. Cohen to serve as the new Pearl Resnick Dean of The Rabbinical School and dean of the Division of Religious Leadership at JTS. In this role, Rabbi Cohen will lead the institution’s Rabbinical School and H. L. Miller Cantorial School. As a renowned spiritual leader, learned rabbi, and passionate advocate for social justice, Rabbi Cohen brings years of experience and new perspective to the role. 

Jewish New Yorkers and Elected Officials Celebrated 100th Anniversary of First Bat Mitzvah in American History

On March 17, Jewish New Yorkers and New York elected officials gathered together to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the first Bat Mitzvah in American history which took place in New York City at the Upper West Side synagogue, SAJ-Judaism That Stands for All. On March 18, 1922, at SAJ, Judith Kaplan became the first American girl in history to formally step into the Jewish community by becoming a Bat Mitzvah.
