Lincoln Park Jewish Center, (LPJC) Yonkers, was the scene of a book signing event of Rabbi Levi Welton’s Chassidic Memoir, Be Like the Moon, on Sunday, August 14, 2022, with a special appearance by NYS Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins.

“I am just so happy to be here with Rabbi Welton and congratulate him on this inspiring book,” Stewart-Cousins said.  “His remarks are very clear, that each of us has the ability to shine and inspire others. We don’t have to have lofty positions; just be humane and respect one another.

“I am looking forward to reading the book and hope that people understand that they too can ‘Be Like the Moon.’”

“Be Like the Moon is not an autobiography.  It is not a confession,” Rabbi Welton observed.

“It is, however, an insightful, moving and pleasurable collection of the stories and personal heroes that shaped a shy Chassidic boy raised in the San Francisco Bay Area.” Welton shows that heroism comes in all shapes, sizes, genders and species, hamsters, hippies, atheists, faith, patriotism and piety.

“The point of my book is that you don’t have to be a superstar.  You can ‘be like the moon’ and be humble and quiet and affect the tides of life in powerful ways in the middle of the night when everybody is sleeping.

“All the people in my book are not famous.  They are just neighborhood heroes who went about their business who lived their lives and unknowingly inspired me.  That is why I wrote this book, so that everyone can reflect upon their own lives and say, ‘Who are my quiet heroes, the humble heroes who shined like the moon and showed me the path forward,’” Welton concluded.

The paperback volume, published by Breakout Press, can be purchased on Amazon.com.
